Sister Shelby Dean

  Hi everyone! Its been a really good week! My friend Quentin got baptized on Sunday. I want to tell you his story because its so awesome.  So he is Nigerian, he was born and raised in Toronto but he lived in Grand Prairie Alberta last year. He met some Sister Missionaries on the street one day and they taught him for a while and he was almost baptized but he wasn't ready. Another set of Missionaries tried to help him be baptized again, but he wasn't ready. That takes us to this December. So he was being taught for a hot minute. Then he came back to Toronto, and the sisters from Alberta sent us his info and said not to give up on him.  So my comp called him everyday for a lot of weeks and then one day he answered and said he wanted to find the truth on his own time. So she stopped calling him. Then I came and during my second week here, we had institute and Quentin just randomly showed up and said can you please help me be baptized. LIKE WHAT!  Hello again, I feel like im emailing you guys everyday, P-day just keeps coming up faster and faster. But it's good im excited to update y'all on everything.  This week was so good we now have 4 friends on date! They are all amazing and have strengthened my testimony of this gospel so so much. I'm so excited for them! Monday to Tuesday I exchanged with our STLs. I was with Sister Johnson!! I love her she's awesome and such a diligent missionary I learned so much from her. We taught one of our friends about the 10 commandments and when we said thou shall not Kill, he said we shouldn't kill with knife, but in Nigeria, we kill with gun... Yeah that was crazy so we had to make sure he knew any killing is against the commandments🤣 then we had FHE and we played telestrations! It was fun but it's definitely more fun with my family.   Hey everyone, Second week in the field down and we had way more lessons which was awesome!  Its been warming up here a bit which is so good because I hate the cold. It actually hurts me😭. But it's ok the work dont stop no matter how cold it gets lol. We have a few progressing friends which is so great! We put our one friend Quentin on date for baptism YAY! He's so cool, he desires to be baptized so much! Yesterday we taught him the plan of salvation and i told him that God's plan is for us to have joy now and forever and he said he can just tell that we are a happy people. He said everyone he meets that is a part of our church is always smiling and seems so happy and he said he already feels happier when he is with us! I know the joy that we have is because of Jesus Christ! We know that death isn't the end and we can change and become better everyday. I'm so grateful that I get to help people come closer to him.  Hey everyone!! I hope you are all doing so good because I am doing so amazing!!! There have definitely been some tough moments, may or may not shed some tears before bed because I miss my family... but besides that I feel so so blessed to be doing what I'm doing! I left the MTC, besides missing my district and my teachers, I was glad to be leaving the MTC to finally be a real missionary lol. I had 2 flights to get to Toronto and the whole travel day was actually so fun! The missionaries I traveled with were so lit so that helped lower my anxiety. My mission president is so so nice and my interview with him was so good, I asked him what he expects of me so I can be a good missionary, and he said "all I expect is that you be yourself and work hard." He's just awesome. The next day I met my trainer and I actually LOVE HER!!!  Hey everyone!!! I hope you are all doing so good! This week has been so good but i cant write everything sorry. Also don't worry I wrote this before 6 im just gonna send it later because i have to get to class. I have had a busy day talking to my family literally all day it was amazing I love and miss you guys🥲  So everyday this week just got better and better as I got used to the schedule and all the people. I LOVE my district!!! We have so much fun together, we are literally always laughing.  Classes have been so good! I love my teacher, his name is brother Jarman!! For the last hour of our 3 hour classes, he always let's us just ask him all the tough questions we have about doctrine or literally anything and he just knows everything!!!  HELLO EVERYONE!! My first week of online MTC was great!! Zoom kind of sucks, but I loved how much time I spent in the Book of Mormon. I was reading it whenever I had a spare moment and seriously the Holy Ghost is real! He truly testifies of truth and the Book of Mormon is so true. It was hard being at home while trying to focus on being a missionary, so being here at the MTC is so awesome.  On Wednesday morning I said goodbye to my family, it was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. Every hug just didn't feel long enough and I miss them so so much. But as I walked away from my family and through security I felt so much peace that I didn't expect to feel. Even walking through the airport alone I felt so confident and I just know this is where God wants me to be.  I met my companions!!
